I had some time between classes on Thursday and decided to video myself, for the first time, practicing yoga. I could be hypercritical about my alignment, breath count etc…. but instead, I am using this video as a learning tool. This short practice was about 15 minutes long and filmed using the time lapse mode on my iPhone 7Plus. It was filmed in the space I use to teach yoga, my open air studio in the Florida Keys at Salute to the Sol. I love practicing yoga outside with the ocean breeze on my face and surrounded by my pets. As you can see, Mulsanne our French Mastiff loves to be by my side! If you look carefully, you can see Chita and Enzo, our cats, sleeping under the chairs.
I am excited to announce a new class has been added to my schedule: Introduction to Yoga! This class is being held every other Tuesday at 7:45am. It is a great class for anyone who is interested in beginning a yoga practice. We begin to learn breathing techniques, the basic poses (asanas) and what it means to connect to your mat. All levels are welcome to join! The next class will be held on May 23rd at 7:45am! I look forward to seeing you on your mat!
There comes a time when, as much as you don’t want to, you must take time off to heal. A little over two weeks ago, I tweaked my back. I’m not sure what I did, but I can tell you, my back is telling me to stop, slow down and recover. I’ve had four sessions of acupuncture to help heal my back over the past two weeks. I have continued to push myself by teaching yoga along with practicing without letting my back rest thus making it worse. After speaking with my friend and acupuncturist, have decided its best to heal and take rest. With that being said, all classes and private sessions, beginning tomorrow, have been cancelled through Wednesday, March 22. I will resume teaching again on Thursday, March 23rd. Thank you all for your patience with me as I take time off to heal as I know it will be worth it in the long term.
On a side note, the timing couldn’t be better as my sister and family arrive this weekend from Orlando! I am exited to share our home, the Keys and time with her family. It will be different having a house full of 4 adults, 3 children, 2 cats and one big Dogue! Be prepared to see pictures on Instagram and Facebook of the craziness that is about to commence!
I do look forward to seeing all of my students next week!
Thank goodness it’s Friday, or FriYAY! I love Friday…. Why? Because I get to lead some of the most amazing women in their yoga practice. I start my day off by leading a group of strong women in a private Power Yoga class at 8:30am. These ladies workout with each other 5 or more times a week, they are a close group of friends who have known each other for a very long time, so they have a great camaraderie and they love to be challenged. They are so much fun to teach as they are very open to learning new alignment techniques, new sequences and they give every asana a try, even if it’s new and difficult. Next, I lead another amazing group of ladies in Ashtanga Yoga at 11am. This class is open to the public and is held at Salute to the Sol. These ladies focus on their breath, linking movement with their breath, alignment and completing the Primary Series. These ladies are always motivated to go further in their practice and bring a wonderful spirit to the studio. I would love for you to come and be apart of our Ashtanga Yoga on Fridays and see for yourself what great energy and love for yoga these women share! Teaching these two classes today really helps to make my Friday a FriYAY!
Just a reminder that all classes are cancelled on Friday, February 24th and Monday, February 27th. Classes will resume on Tuesday the 28th!
This morning, the weather couldn’t have been more perfect for our Gentle Yoga class. It was slightly cool and overcast with a breeze. Five ladies joined me on their mats to connect to their breath, focus on their balance and enjoy some great stretching.
It was suggested to me that I should blog, even if it’s just a few sentences about my yoga classes or yoga practices that I’m currently work on….. So, here it is… my first blog post. Please be patient with me as I begin to learn to express myself through my blog, write about teaching yoga and have some personal growth along the way. I hope you will enjoy this as much as I! I look forward to your feedback along my journey.
